About the Lakes

The DNR built Winchester Dam in 1955 and approximately 1600 acres were flooded.  The drainage area of the Martiny Lakes Flooding is approximately 38 square miles.  The project flooded a total of eight lakes, all of which had drained into the south branch of the Chippewa River thus creating the Martiny Chain of Lakes.
The existing lakes are: Big Evans, Upper Evans, Lower Evans, Saddlebag, Boom, Lost, Tubbs, Dogfish, Bullhead, Bass, and Manake.

You have access to all of the lakes connected in a big circle by channels (approximately 38 miles of shoreline) containing many species of fish including: bass, bluegill, northern pike, yellow perch, crappie, dogfish, and sunfish. This great wildlife area encompasses approximately 1665 acres and is home to all kinds of wildlife including deer, beavers, many species of ducks, muskrats, turtles, loons, swans, herons, cranes, eagles and ospreys.
We welcome fishermen all year as well as deer and duck hunters! Ask about our special October rentals rates.
